Mumbai Cricket Association
The Mumbai Cricket Association or MCA (formerly known as Bombay Cricket Association) is the governing body for cricket in Mumbai and its surrounding regions, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The Association comes under West Zone of the country.The Association was established in 1930 and has a sound constitution. It has its own stadium - the Wankhede Stadium, near Churchgate railway station built in 1974.
MCA is a permanent member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. It follows a democratic set-up and is headed by a duly elected Managing Committee. The Managing Committee elections are held regularly every two years.
Ranji Trophy, national championship, is a sign of national supremacy in cricket. In the history of 74 years, Mumbai team has won the coveted trophy for 37 times, in which 15 times in a row. The MCA selects team to represent itself in Ranji Trophy from the residents of Mumbai, Thane & Navi Mumbai and who has performed in local tournaments for seniors.
At the instance of Hon'ble Shri Sharad Pawar the MCA has a new ground acquired in 2004 and a State of Art Cricket Academy being developed at Bandra - Kurla Complex. The same shall be inaugurated by end of 2007. The Indoor Cricket Academy shall be functional by end of July 2007.
MCA also has acquired a ground at Kandivli in north Mumbai and shall have a Club House there. It would have two plots for two matches to be played simultaneously.
The Mumbai Cricket Association doesn't not have a system of individual membership. It has 368 representatives of clubs as ordinary members and 25 clubs as associate members, affiliated to the Association. Only ordinary members are eligible to vote during elections. If any ordinary member is found to be inactive in terms of cricket activity for more than 3 years, the Club to which he/she belongs is demoted as an Associate member and if the club is still inactive for 3 more years, it automatically loses its membership.
Currently the Association is headed by Hon'ble Shri Sharad Pawar.
